Early American Mahogany Chippendale Desk

Early American Mahogany Chippendale Desk dating to the late 1700’s or early 1800’s. This beautiful mahogany desk has many interesting features!

This drop front secretary desk shows incredible craftsmanship and beauty. It has lovely mahogany grain throughout and has been very thoughtfully constructed. The desk features two sliding wooden pieces that help support the weight of the desk surface.

Inside, the secretary features a beautifully designed interior. There are hidden compartments and sliding pieces which conceal a false bottom. Of course, hiding valuables and precious documents in a desk such as this was important to the original owner!

The entire desk features a dovetailed case and top. This rare and beautiful feature makes this special desk even more impressive, considering all was built by hand.

Finally, brass Chippendale hardware finishes this lovely piece. Although the hardware could have been changed at a later date, these brasses look hand forged and of the period.

We believe the original finish of the desk is in tact, though surely additional wax and polishes have kept it preserved over the years. A true piece of history to own and cherish!
