Bachelors Chest

Beautiful cherry bachelors chest made by John Widdicomb Furniture. We are offering this pair of fine furniture bachelors chests as a pair for the listed price. These vintage nightstands are in the French Provincial style.

French Provincial

French Provincial bachelors chests feature serpentine front drawers. They have small cabriole legs. Also, the sides have curved inset panels. Finally, these small chests have three deep drawers. The hardware and false keyholes are beautiful gilded brass, but they do show a bit of patina.

The French Provincial style is associated with feminine forms and curved front case pieces. Reproduction French provincial furniture had a hit in the 1960’s. In many ways, it is experiencing a comeback today! French style furniture continues to inspire American Furniture designers and manufactures. Of course, these stylish bachelor chests belong in a bedroom. They certainly would look phenomenal next to an upholstered headboard, or a bed of a different style. Additionally, they could work in a little girl’s room.

John Widdicomb Furniture Company produced very high quality furniture in Grand Rapids, Michigan. These vintage nightstand chests hit the showroom floor in circa 1960.

These small chests have gorgeous solid cherry timber. The secondary wood on the interior of the drawers appears to be solid oak. The top two drawers have dividers and a sliding jewelry tray.

We decided to bring these vintage bachelors chests back to life! In order to do so, we stripped them of their finish, which had been blemished and scratched from years of use. Then, we stained them with an appropriate warm cherry color. The natural variation within the wood grain is another sign of quality. Finally, they were coated in a sprayed lacquer finish. This aids the cherry wood furniture to have a bit of sheen and a very durable protective coating.

These bachelor chests should survive another 80 years if not longer!
