Antique Poster Bed
This antique poster bed features solid mahogany wood. It has lovely turned and ribbed posts that are also quite tall. Of course, we crafted a new canopy to rest on top of the bed posts.
This antique bed was originally a rope bed, which is evidenced in the holes in the rails and headboard and footboard. In later years, someone added sturdy metal brackets, which would drop a modern boxspring down considerably.
Of course, this bed was made before the era of modern mattresses and boxsprings. As it sits, this bed will have to accomodate what is often called a “three quarters” sized bed mattress and boxspring. This is a bed that is roughly 48” wide by 75” long.
Thankfully, these can be ordered online, and are often the size of RV mattresses.
Alternatively, you could place a standard full size mattress on the bedrails, because those dimensions are 55” wide x 75” long.
Early Mahogany Bed
This handsome early mahogany bed has a beautiful design and would be perfect for any historic or traditional home. The tall posts, grand scale and opportunity for a canopy make this bed quite romantic and beautiful.
We refinished this early mahogany bed in order to restore the look of an early rope bed.
