Antique Pastel on Paper
Antique Pastel on Paper done by listed artist Hubert Lewis. Hubert Lewis was born in 1865 in Scotland, but immigrated to the United States. Most of his works were done in the McKeesport area of Pennsylvania. He lived until 1952.
This pastel on paper likely was completed in the early 20th century. It is typical of Lewis’s naturalistic style and delicate touch with pastel. The artwork shows his incredible understanding of the Pennsylvania landscape, as well as light and perspective. The quaint house, which is the central subject of the work, is centered near the horizon. It is also highlighted by the warm autumn sun. A still lake and tall trees also frame the scene.
In a wonderful soft and comforting work, Lewis really captures late fall beauty of Pennsylvania.
The work is signed in the bottom left corner. It includes a nice glass frame to preserve the work.
