Description

Suter’s Cherry Writing Desk

Suter’s Cherry writing desk made in circa 1990. This beautiful solid cherry writing desk has a newly refinished top. Suter’s makes beautiful reproduction colonial furniture in Virginia.
The company started in the early 1800’s when Daniel Suter left his native Switzerland and immigrated to the United States. He was a Mennonite and trained in woodworking. Suter continued to refine his craft and eventually Suter’s Furniture Company produced multiple different styles of furniture in cherry, mahogany and walnut.

This particular desk has a beautiful yet subdued style. The desk has four drawers (the drawer faces to the right are one deeper drawer.) The desk top is a simple flat profile and the legs are straight and tapered. This vintage desk almost has a Shaker look to it.

The apron has a few curves around the edge, but really the desk has no other ornament. This allows the fine piece of cherry wood to really take center stage.

The craftsmanship of the desk is also seen in the construction: dovetailed drawers and nicely fitted case. The back appears to be made of solid oak.

CONDITION

The top was refinished and color matched to the piece. This makes this little cherry desk an almost like new piece of fine furniture for a fraction of the original price.
