Antique Empire Sofa
Of course, this antique Empire sofa has a lovely carved design, with exquisite details. The mahogany frame features a paw foot design, with elegant scroll work and imaginative carved details. Additionally, the curved arm has a lovely acanthus or feather design, that terminates in a beautiful rosette.
The sculptural form is characteristic of the bold Empire style of the early 19th century. Beautiful from virtually every angle, the rich mahogany provides a striking contrast against the jewel-toned green upholstery.
We restored the frame, and then had the tufted back sofa upholstered in a rich emerald green color. The down filled seat was overstuffed and creates a lofty cushion. New tufted pillows complete the look.
This piece would make a dramatic addition to a formal living room, library, parlor or even a sophisticated bedroom. The emerald green also pairs beautifully with traditional rugs, warm woods, brass accents and collected antique furnishings.
While this lovely antique sofa has a bold and eye-catching look, there are a few remaining flaws. There is a small repair made on the right back side of the sofa. Additionally, there are some tiny imperfections here and there to the frame. These minor signs of age are consistent with an antique of this period and do not detract from its impressive overall appearance.
