Description

Antique Empire Dresser

Antique empire dresser that is beautiful, rare and unique. This antique empire dresser features tiger maple wood and solid cherry wood. As typical of empire dressers from the period, this piece has graduated drawers. In other words, the top drawer protrudes outward and is larger than the rest.

This large and stately chest has a great look. The top drawer is framed with a beautiful section of tiger (sometimes called curly) maple wood. This beautiful outline of tiger maple stripes has an incredible tight grain. Tiger maple is a rare and mysterious grain. Scientists still don’t know exactly what causes tiger grain to appear in maple woods. In addition, it does not occur in every board. It is more common in New England, cold weather trees. The rarity of the wood tells us this empire dresser was built for someone special.

The cherry wood too has a beautiful appearance in this empire chest. The cherry color vacillates from dark to light. It has a beautiful and unusual look. Finally, solid Wood knobs finish the piece.

Antique Empire Dressers

This piece has beautiful character and style for its age, and would work in many different settings. It has been beautifully refinished but still retains the great character of the mid 19th century. It is in very good condition, but some escutcheons (key holes) are missing.

Empire dressers are quite practical for today’s homes. Obviously, they work very well in bedrooms. The top large drawer allows great storage space for sweaters and jeans. In addition, empire chests work very nicely in dining rooms. Finally, we see a great number of empire chests in entryways and foyers.
